Speaking at a conference on e-government "WeGo 2007", Smiljanic said that the aim of e-government is to enable citizens to carry out many administrative procedures via the Internet, which would eliminate waiting and save time.
She added that e-government also includes exchange of information in electronic form between public administration organs, with the aim of reducing costs of paper and its storage, and to speed up functioning of public administration.
According to her, software is expected be installed next year in municipalities in Serbia that will enable that tax collection to be transferred from state level to local self-governments.
She said that Serbia is lagging behind a lot with regulations in the field of IT society, which is one of the conditions for EU accession. That is why the preparation of laws on e-trade, e-government, protection of personal data in electronic form and e-archives will be accelerated.
