Speaking at this event sponsored by the Health Ministry, Milosavljevic said that since 2002 the number of annual implantations conducted at the national pacemaker centre at the KCS has increased from 240 to 1,300.
He said that this establishment is one of the most active and largest pacemaker centers in Europe considering its scientific contributions.
The Minister pointed to the fact that one of the biggest successes presents the removal of the list of patients waiting for an implantation in Serbia.
Of some 1,000 people who were unable to buy a pacemaker during the period from 1994 to 2001, nearly 500 died suddenly at home, while since 2003 none of the patients requiring a pacemaker are on the waiting list for implantation, said Milosavljevic.
At the gathering held in Hotel Hyatt, greeting messages from Serbian President Boris Tadic and Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica were also read out.
During dinner, guests from abroad had an opportunity to view a short history of the pacemaker centre from 1967 to 2007 and an exhibition of modern Serbian painting, which was organised by the National Museum in Belgrade.
