Energetika 2007, EcoFair opened

Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Popovic said today opening the third international fair of energy “Energetika 2007” that this sector will face many challenges in the years ahead and a way must be found to increase production of electricity.

Popovic pointed to the fact that supply capacities must be strengthened and the question of gas supply must be resolved during the winter months, and stressed that mining must be upgraded into a branch of economy which will be one of the major strengths of Serbian economy.

He stressed that energy must also be promoted as guardian of environment. He added that protecting the environment is the joint work of the Ministry of Energy and Mining and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

According to Popovic, work must be begun by using alternative and renewable energy resources since it is necessary that Serbia uses all its potential.

Serbian Minister of Environmental Protection Sasa Dragin said at the opening of the fourth international fair of environmental protection EcoFair that it is very important that every person takes care not to pollute the environment.

According to Dragin, developed countries daily dedicate attention to environmental protection and it is important that Serbia reaches standards in this area which are valid in the EU.

The ministers also toured the fairs.

More than 120 domestic and foreign exhibitors in the area of electric energy, gas, oil, mining and renewable energy resources are taking part in the fair, as well as 130 exhibitors in the area of environmental protection.
