Miscevic said at the session of Serbian parliament’s committee on European integration that this meeting will mark the beginning of negotiations on putting Serbia on the White Schengen List.
She specified that subjects of the meeting of the Enhanced Permanent Dialogue will be the condition and progress in the judiciary and interior affairs, and said in that context that it is very important to adopt the law on travel documents.
Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Interior Milorad Todorovic presented the bill on travel documents to members of the said committee and stressed that valid passports of the former Yugoslavia should be replaced with new travel documents by December 31, 2008.
Todorovic said that the bill on travel documents envisages that issuance of new passports begins from March 1, 2008, and all old passports are replaced by the end of that year.
He explained that the passport will contain certain protection elements, such as space for machine-readable data where visible alphanumeric data will be entered.
According to Todorovic, new travel documents will help prevent crime, terrorism, illegal immigration and misuse.
According to the bill, travel documents include passports, diplomatic passports and official passports etc.
