Vukadinovic, who visited the construction site for a new correctional centre in Padinska Skela, said that new prisons need to be built as 28 current prisons in Serbia can provide room for 6,000 prisoners whereas there are nearly 8,500 convicts at the moment.
The new prison in Padinska Skela will span 10,500 square metres and will include a separate unit for those convicted of the most severe crimes with a capacity for 450 persons.
Vukadinovic pointed out that there are over 40 persons in Serbia sentenced to the maximum sentence of 40 years of prison and they will all be located in this prison.
He also announced reconstruction of correctional centres in Nis and Sremska Mitrovica noting that so far most has been done in Zabela prison near Pozarevac.
