Ilic stated for the news agency Tanjug that the Ministry of Infrastructure resumed work on projects begun earlier on the very first day of the formation of the government.
He pointed to the fact that priorities of the ministry in the government’s new term are construction of the ring road around Belgrade and highways, of which the most important is the Horgos – Pozega highway, as well as roads towards the Bulgarian and Macedonian borders.
According to Ilic, the tender for construction of the Nis – Dimitrovgrad highway will be announced in three months time, while an international tender will be prepared for the highway to the Macedonian border.
The Minister explained that these highways in southern Serbia are also important for Europe, due to which it is expected that European financial institutions will provide help in their construction.
The issues of transport and construction works must be resolved at state level since investments in infrastructure facilities also resolve the problem of employment, Ilic said.
Commenting on the construction of the Horgos – Pozega highway, he reiterated that this is a priority for Serbia since the Ibar highway is overcrowded.
Minister Ilic also said that he will request at the government’s session to be held on August 23 that the concessions contract on the construction of the Horgos – Pozega highway be published in full.
Considering the fact that the contract was drafted by financial advisors who were selected through an international tender, I cannot alone bring the decision on its publication, rather I will seek from the government that the full text of the contract be published, he said, adding that he is ready to make the contract public if the government permits.
I will insist upon it since it simply cannot be published without the government’s consent, which, of course, must take responsibility for taking such a decision, stressed Minister Ilic.
Ilic explained that the concessions contract on the Horgos – Pozega highway is drafted according to the model used in over a thousand similar contracts drafted throughout Europe.
