In a statement to the Beta news agency, Miscevic stressed that the date has not been officially confirmed yet but added she expects the entire text of the SAA, all protocols and annexes to be adopted at this round.
She said Serbia will try and ratify the SAA by end-September, which will depend on whether any EU member country has objections to the agreement.
According to Miscevic, the government’s aim is to sign the SAA by end-2007 and start implementing it as of 2008.
She also said that full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal will be a precondition for the SAA to be signed and representatives of the Tribunal and the EU will assess Serbia’s cooperation with the Hague.
Speaking about the liberalisation of the visa regime, she said that a special working group has been formed to work on achieving full visa liberalisation before 2009, the precondition for which is the adoption of a law on passports, asylum, state border and movement and residence of foreign nationals, which should be adopted by year’s end.
She announced that new ID cards would be soon issued, whereas citizens should begin getting new passports as of January 1, 2008.
On its way towards full liberalisation of the visa regime, Serbia will have to prove it is capable of taking part in fighting organised crime, namely, that it is a country which controls everyone crossing its territory, explained Miscevic.
