Director of the Forestry Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Aleksandar Vasiljevic stated today there are no new forest fires in Serbia and that the existing ones are already under control, though around 11,000 hectares of forests, pastures and meadows are ablaze.
At a press conference held at the public company Srbijasume, Vasiljevic said that the most endangered locations are in the vicinity of Svrljig, Rtanj and Bela Palanka where Russian fire extinguisher airplane has been putting out fires since this morning.
He said the fire in Deliblatska Pescara sands is under control and that around 300 men are in the field there.
He warned of the dangers of new fires if extremely high temperatures should persist.
According to Vasiljevic, neighbouring countries also have problems with forest fires which is why they have not been able to help Serbia by sending their airplanes.
Director of the Srbijasume Department for Forestry, Hunting and Environment Predrag Aleksic said that around 90% of territories on fire are private property, though employees from the public company Srbijasume are also taking part in putting out these fires.
