Board President Milos Jevtic stated that the declaration aims at establishing the best possible communication between the government and parliament, so that following the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, Serbia may begin a speedy process of EU accession.
Director of the Serbian EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic stressed the importance of cooperation between the government and parliament and added that the EU integration process is but a process of internal reforms in Serbia which lead towards EU membership.
Miscevic voiced pleasure at parliament members’ high level of understanding of the EU integration process, European values and the desire to speed up the process not only according to the government’s needs, but also to the needs of all Serbian citizens.
She explained that the declaration will be passed in parliament after the SAA is signed so that the ensuing work, which is far more comprehensive, may be thus more efficient.
The EU Integration Board proposed today to alter the rule book on parliament’s work in the section referring to the adoption of the so-called “European laws” so that these laws may be adopted through an accelerated procedure.
