Tadic election win reflects Serbia’s pro-European orientation

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has sent a letter to Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica welcoming Boris Tadic’s victory in the Serbian presidential election and stressing that the Prime Minister’s support was vital for securing the victory of democratic forces in Serbia.
Serbia has showed it pro-European orientation, Blair said in the letter, adding that Tadic’s election win will allow the country to get closer to its goal and will give a new force to Serbia’s reform programme.
The Serbian government’s constructive role is the key to creating conditions for a democratic, multiethnic society in Kosovo-Metohija, in which all citizens, including minorities, can live in peace and safety, the letter said.
The British Prime Minister also supported Serbia-Montenegrin efforts to integrate into European institutions, a goal which he said calls for full cooperation with The Hague.
