Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić met today with the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Victoria Tiblom and Yunus Emre, who are on a working visit to Belgrade.

Commitment to further harmonisation of domestic legislation with European standards

During the meeting, which was also attended by Head of the Council of Europe (CoE) Office in Belgrade János Babity, Vujić informed the interlocutors about the current reform processes in the field of justice, emphasising the commitment of the Ministry of Justice to further improving the independence of the judiciary and the independence of the public prosecution service, and increasing the efficiency of courts and public prosecutor’s offices.
The Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening legal certainty and the consistent application of laws and reiterated Serbia’s firm commitment to the further harmonisation of domestic legislation with European standards.
He also emphasised that the Ministry of Justice regularly monitors the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
The PACE rapporteurs expressed interest in the results of the reforms so far, as well as in the next steps in the process of improving the judicial system.
The interlocutors agreed that the continuation of reforms and the transparent work of institutions are of key importance for Serbia’s further progress on its European path.
