Following talks with Greek Minister of Defence Evangelos Meimarakis, Sutanovac expressed gratitude to Greece for Greek presence in the KFOR and stressed that it is important to the Serb population in Kosovo-Metohija which sees Greece as a great friend of Serbia.
He told the media that the position of the Greek Ministry of Defence is that the solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue should be found through negotiations, in a manner which is satisfactory to both sides.
The Minister said that Meimarakis brought up the problem of the visa regime faced by Serbian citizens, even though that issue is not under the jurisdiction of the Greece Ministry of Defence.
Sutanovac said that it is important for the future development of Serbia and that Serbia is included in the White Schengen List as soon as possible, above all because of young people who are not able to travel, explained Sutanovac.
According to Sutanovac, during talks bilateral military cooperation was also analysed and on that occasion it was concluded that Greece is investing a lot in education and training of officers from Serbia.
He added that advancing military and technical cooperation between the two countries was also discussed.
On behalf of the Serbian government and the Defence Ministry Sutanovac expressed condolences to the Greek government and Greek Ministry of Defence, as well as to families of the deceased, over the death of pilots killed during fire extinguishing efforts recently.
Minister Sutanovac stressed that Athens supports efforts to find a balanced solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
He pointed to the fact that it is necessary to find a solution which could contribute to peace and stability in the region, and stressed that Greece supports the processes of Serbia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
