Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica spoke today with Hungarian Foreign Minister Laszlo Kovacs. Kostunica stressed that Serbia-Montenegro and Hungary have had traditionally good neighbourly relations and good cooperation in all fields.
Stressing that European integration is Serbia-Montenegro’s main objective, Kostunica said that Hungary’s experience in accession to the European Union is of great significance to Serbia.
Kovacs said that for Serbia-Montenegro to join the EU is in the interest of Hungary and he stressed that his country is ready to share its experience in the process of European integration.
Pointing out that the Serbian government attaches great importance to respect for minorities, Kostunica said that Serbia has passed a good law on minorities and that national councils of minorities have been formed.
Both officials concluded that it is very important to improve the status of the Hungarian minority in Serbia and the Serb minority in Hungary, in order to expand cooperation between the two countries.
Kovacs said that Vojvodina is well-known as a good example of coexistence between various religious and ethnic groups.
