Serbian Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac will be on an official visit to Bulgaria today, where he will speak with Bulgarian top officials on the situation in the region and bilateral cooperation.
Sutanovac will meet Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and Bulgarian Minister of Defence Veselin Bliznakov and sign an agreement on defence cooperation.
The Serbian Defence Minister said in an interview with Bulgarian news agency BTA that cooperation between Serbia and Bulgaria is at a very high level and that political relations between the two countries have never been better.
He recalled that the same opinion was recently expressed by Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov and Serbian President Boris Tadic on the occasion of
opening two new border crossings.
Joint military exercises and training are the top form of defence cooperation between countries, Sutanovac said recalling the successful exercise performed by members of the Serbian, Romanian and Bulgarian armies “Danubian Guard 07” in late June.
According to him, Serbia will continue to pursue European and Euroatlantic integration and priority will be given to strengthening international military relations and cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
He added that organisational changes in the Serbian military were completed on June 30 and are the first step in the army’s adjustment to top standards of military practice and training for peacekeeping forces.
