Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic and State Secretary Snezana Lakicevic-Stojacic visited today a construction site in 11 Teodora Drajzera Street in Belgrade, which the inspection service closed due to many irregularities found.
Ljajic said that this marked the beginning of a campaign that will be carried out throughout Serbia with the aim of increasing occupational safety and reducing unregistered labour.
He said that as of yesterday, more than 50 inspectors are visiting construction sites because most of the accidents happen in the heat of the season, that is in July and August.
The Minister announced a permanent campaign of sudden visits to construction sites because since the beginning of the year, eight people died at construction sites.
Construction sites are not protected and most of the workers do not wear protection equipment and helmets, Ljajic said and added that the Ministry will fine the employers who fail to provide basic working conditions. Fines will range from RSD 800,000 to RSD 1 million.
