At a workshop themed “Forming a Vision for a Rural Serbia” held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Djordjevic-Milosevic said that by September the Ministry will have information on the gathered results and basic analyses which will help it create this document and draft support programmes for rural development. The information will also be useful for getting financial support from EU funds, she added.
According to Djordjevic-Milosevic, the strategy will help plan the measures and set up a system of support to the needs for Serbia’s rural development.
She explained that the Ministry of Agriculture will be in charge of the status of agriculture within the rural development process, but it will also enable coordination with other ministries to attract investments into areas that concern other aspects of life in a rural environment, such as infrastructure development, education and health.
Djordjevic-Milosevic explained that experiences of EU countries were used while drafting the strategy, as well as creativity of domestic experts and their realistic view of possibilities and needs which will help set priorities in this area.
The workshop was organised by the EU Project themed “Support to Rural Development Programming and Payment System” (SRDPPS) and managed by the European Agency for Reconstruction.
Present at the meeting were representatives of several Serbian ministries, universities and institutes, municipalities, agricultural and rural organisations, agricultural cooperatives, food and processing industry, NGOs and embassies of EU member countries.
