In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, prior to departure for Bratislava, Jeremic explained that he intends to secure support by an even larger number of EU member countries, for Serbia’s position that it is necessary to begin new negotiations on the Kosovo-Metohija issue.
The Minister said that this is an important point in the process of resolving the status issue of Kosovo-Metohija, when there is no unified opinion on how to continue the process.
I think that at this time it is of key importance that we get as big a number of EU countries on our side as possible, and they would strengthen our position with their votes, which has Russia’s support, and that position is that new negotiations are necessary, explained Jeremic.
The Serbian government last week devoted attention to multilateral institutions, said the Minister and added that due to that he visited the seat of the
EU in Brussels, and
Council of Europe in Strasbourg and
in Ohrid participated in the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council.
According to Jeremic, this week will be devoted to bilateral relations with EU countries.
He announced that today in Slovakia he will talk with Slovak top officials and as a guest he will attend the sessions of the Visegrad Group, in whose work foreign ministers of Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia will also take part.
Tomorrow Jeremic will be in Vienna, where he will talk with Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, and on July 5, during the visit to Berlin, he will hold a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
