Addressing the members of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly in his capacity as Chairman of the Council's Committee, Jeremic said that it would be very dangerous to impose a solution for Kosovo and underlined that that issue must be resolved in a manner that would be acceptable for both sides.
Imposing Kosovo's independence not only against Serbia's will, but also against the decision of the UN Security Council, would seriously undermine the essential principle of international order and that is the principle of sovereign equality of all states, and the essence of the Final Act of Helsinki.
Serbia will do its level best to find a balanced solution that will respect its territorial integrity and sovereignty, but at the same time fulfill the legitimate request of the ethnic Albanian side to get substantial self-government, the Serbian Foreign Minister said.
According to him, Europe itself is a product of a great vision realised through political steps, with patience and consensus, and that is what we need the most when it comes to Kosovo-Metohija - a patient search for a compromise solution acceptable for all.
In his address to members of the Parliamentary Assembly, the Foreign Minister expanded Serbia's priorities during the six-month chairmanship of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers.
Answering the questions of reporters after his speech, Jeremic said that the issue of the future status of Kosovo-Metohija should not be linked to Serbia's European integration.
He said that Serbia supports Montenegro's membership in the Council of Europe and announced that on July 6 he will visit Montenegro to discuss a series of bilateral issues with its officials, including the question of Serbia's diplomatic corps to Montenegro.
