Speaking in Kragujevac at the promotion of the campaign for informing the public on patients’ rights “You Have the Right”, Milosavljevic stressed that compared to 2001; the total sum allocated to health increased 28 times.
He pointed to the fact that patients’ rights are not privileges and imply choosing a doctor, information, consent to procedures, objections and paying damages.
The Minister recalled that the law on health protection defines patients’ rights, and added that the campaign is a continuation of the initiative taken in June 2002 on founding an institution for protection of patients’ rights.
The Minister said that it is important to bring a change regarding awareness of prevention and stressed that there are preventive care centers in 25 health centers in Serbia.
During the three month long campaign 400,000 brochures will be printed, and billboards will be put up to convey the message that patients should be active partners to doctors in treatment.
