At the promotion of the support project for tourism on the pan-European corridor five and ten SITOUR, held in Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, Jankovic said that the aim of this project of the Italian government and the countries of the West Balkans is to offer tourism related to nature, culture, history and art, as well as local typical tourism of the region.
He said that a budget of €612,000 for financing this project was provided by the Italian government, and the coordinator of SITOUR for Serbia is the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce.
According to Jankovic, the first step in cooperation will be training of tourism employees in Serbia which will last 21 days, during which the Italian side will offer its experience in that area, and individual areas in Italy will be initiators of economic and tourism cooperation with countries of the West Balkans.
Special advisor for tourism in the Serbian Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Ljubica Milojevic stressed that the joint project of the Italian government and Serbia will contribute to widening economic and tourism cooperation between the two countries, as well as in the region.
Milojevic said that the special importance of the project SITOUR is that it will establish a partnership between the public and private sector, which is the model upon which our tourism should be developed.
The Serbian government supports projects intended to improve this sphere of economy, she stressed and added that the Serbian government allocated RSD 4 billion this year from the budget for developing tourism.
These funds will be mostly spent on capacity building and infrastructure in tourism centers, said Milojevic, adding that 11 master plans for development of most important tourism centers will be completed by September.
Milojevic stressed that the government has set aside €2 million for further training and education of employees in tourism.
The SITOUR project is designed as a support programme for economic systems of countries of the West Balkans including, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia, through technical help and exchange of information in the tourism sector.
