Serbia was chosen today at the Viennese headquarters of the United Nations to chair the 40th session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), that deals with modernisation and harmonisation of rules on international business.
Serbia's permanent representative at UNCITRAL Dobrosav Mitrovic told Tanjug news agency that he will chair the Commission's session from July 9 to 12. He said that the Commission has 80 member states and that Serbia is the first country of the former Yugoslavia elected as the presiding country, which is a special honour.
Mitrovic explained that the main topic of the three-week session will be loan-related legislation, ie instruments of payment of loan givers.
He recalled that Serbia has so far accepted several decisions of UNCITRAL, and it initialled the Convention of execution of international arbitration decisions.
The Commission holds conferences once a year, in Vienna and New York in turns. At the end of the session, a congress "Modern Law for Global Commerce" will be held, also chaired by Mitrovic.
