Milosavljevic said on the occasion that the
campaign with the slogan, “You Have the Right” is a priority of the Ministry of Health during the current term, and added that the total investment in health in Serbia this year will stand at €500 million.
He explained that in the campaign, advertisements will be aired on the TV, billboards will be put up and 400,000 brochures and posters will be distributed among health representatives to inform citizens, health workers and employees in the health system regarding patients’ rights.
According to Milosavljevic, if patients are not properly informed regarding their rights and the necessity of realising these rights they run the risk of getting lost in the new buildings and equipment.
He said that during the first five months of this year a temporary ban was put on the work of 89 private health establishments in Serbia due to their not fulfilling conditions or stepping beyond the activities allowed by their license for work.
The ophthalmology clinic “Ilic” and private specialist hospital for plastic surgery “Perfekta” in Belgrade are also among the clinics closed down because they carried out procedures which were not covered by their license from the Health Ministry, stressed Milosavljevic.
He said that criminal charges have been filed against these two clinics due to the death of three year old Anja Grahovac, who underwent ophthalmic surgery.
Besides relevant state institutions, expert associations of doctors and medical staff in Serbia should react to such cases, said Milosavljevic and explained that these two and other clinics were not closed down because they are private, but because they broke the law.
The Health Minister also visited today the gynaecology clinic in Novi Sad and speaking on the occasion he said that this clinic is proof that high quality work can be done in Serbia.
During the visit to the clinic, he talked with Novi Sad resident Jasmina Skunce-Sabljar, who is one of the women who gave birth owing to the free national programme of artificial insemination.
On June 7 in this clinic, twins Jelena and Goran Gakovic were the first babies born in the national programme of artificial insemination.
