Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu said today that it is of great importance that it was established at the meeting between the Serbian Prime Minister and Russian President Putin in St Petersburg that the two countries have a joint policy in resolving the Kosovo-Metohija status issue, which is based on respect of the UN Charter, the UN SC Resolution 1244 and the Serbian Constitution.
Kostunica stressed that Serbia is firmly determined to improve economic relations with Russia and to widen goods trade between the two countries. He said that cooperation with Russia is of strategic significance for Serbia.
Kostunica pointed to the fact that the political and economic activities of Serbia and Russia present an excellent example of their mutual relations characterised by the spirit of partnership.
Shoigu, who is also co-president of the Inter-governmental Serbian-Russian committee for trade, economic and technical cooperation said that political and economic relations between the two countries are very good.
He said that important strategic projects were launched during the past year and that Russia is very interested in further investments.
The two officials agreed that it is in mutual economic interest to realise Russian investments in strategic economic areas, such as energy, infrastructure, river and air traffic, metallurgy, banking.
Also, they said that there is great interest for improvement of cultural cooperation, especially in the film industry and TV educational and children's programme.
At the meeting it was agreed to intensify meetings at the ministerial level in order to improve economic cooperation.
