State support for parents caring for children with special needs

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated today that the Bill on Parents-Caregivers and Caregivers will enter parliamentary procedure in early July, while the implementation of the document should begin in October.

Speaking on Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), Macut pointed out that this is one of the fundamental laws that, among other things, provides for a monthly allowance of RSD 65,000 for parents-carers, and pointed out that parents caring for children with special needs have not been recognised so far.

This is a social law that is exceptionally European and that brings a completely new recognition of parents in this extremely difficult role, which requires and deserves every recognition, he stated.

Speaking about criticism that the law does not cover all the problems of parents-caregivers, he said that there is always room for improvement and that this will be discussed.

The Prime Minister pointed out that several important social laws were adopted during the current government’s term, including the Law on Alimony Fund.

Speaking about the announced reduction in the price of medicines, Macut said that he expects prices to be reduced in a month or two and added that the procedure for adopting regulations related to the National Health Insurance Fund will follow.

According to him, the reduction in the price of medicines will apply to all groups of patients, such as those suffering from cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, diabetes, chronic connective tissue diseases and rheumatic diseases.

We have 10 to 11 groups and I hope that we will find room to reduce prices in all these groups, Macut emphasized and added that prices will be reduced by up to 50%.
