At a conference organised for directors of health institutions in Belgrade, held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Milosavljevic said that the realisation of the campaign must not be subjected to any changes because the entire health system depends on patients, on people who seek medical help and who must know their rights at all times.
He stressed that the campaign started in Belgrade and announced that the Ministry will organise four large conferences and thus gather the most responsible people from health institutions who will be given printed material and notifications on the rights of patients in line with the Law on health protection.
Assistant Minister of Health Snezana Simic pointed out the significance of the campaign to make patients the centre of the health protection system, adding that doctors must respect patients, their dignity and the right to make decisions on their own bodies.
City Secretary of Health Snezana Stevanovic stressed that Belgrade took over jurisdiction of 27 health centres and is fully prepared for the campaign and the inclusion of the Serbian health system into international and European standards.
The one-month campaign involves billboards, TV videos, distribution of educational brochures and posters in health centres, as well as presence in printed and electronic media.
Regional meeting will be held within the campaign with representatives of health institutions – on June 19 in Belgrade, June 22 in Novi Sad, June 26 in Kragujevac and June 29 in Nis.
The counselling for patients’ rights protectors has been scheduled for July 2 in Belgrade at the role and function of protectors, their rights and obligations will be defined then.
