Minister D’Alema proposed that Belgrade and Pristina resume talks on Kosovo-Metohija’s future status which would be limited in time and whose final aim would be that Kosovo-Metohija becomes an independent state.
The Serbian Prime Minister rejected the proposal to make the negotiating process conditional upon the acceptance of the province’s independence.
Kostunica stressed that Serbia will not negotiate its province’s independence because any form of independence would mean the severest breach of the UN Charter, UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Serbian Constitution.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia has forwarded a completely different initiative for a new set of talks and thus expressed its clear readiness to take a constructive part in finding a compromise solution based on the respect of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
