The Memorandum was also signed by the Romanian and Bulgarian defence ministers, Viorel Melescanu and Veselin Bliznakov respectively.
Just before the signing, Melescanu said that “Danubian Guard” is a Romanian-Bulgarian initiative which is now also joined by Serbia as an equal partner, adding that this is Serbia’s first step towards joining the huge NATO family.
He said that Serbia is ready to participate with all its forces in this project in order to prove that it fulfills the same standards as Romania and Bulgaria.
Sutanovac said that by 2010 Belgrade will have completed all preparations for Serbia's accession to NATO and added that the fact that he is attending today's meeting of defence ministers of NATO and Partnership for Peace member states is a great thing for Serbia, which is ready for its soldiers to participate in peacekeeping missions.
