Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic said last night, following talks with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, that Serbia has full right to sovereignty and any one sided decision regarding the future of Kosovo-Metohija will be invalid for Belgrade.
Speaking to the press in Stockholm, Jeremic said that Serbia will consider any unilateral decision regarding the future status of Kosovo-Metohija invalid because Kosovo-Metohija was and will remain a part of Serbia.
He reiterated that the plan presented by UN Special Envoy Marti Ahtisaari is unacceptable for Serbia because it violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and stressed that Belgrade is ready to continue dialogue in search of a solution based on compromise for the southern Serbian province.
The Serbian Foreign Minister said that in his
address to participants of the Forum for the Future of Democracy, organised by the Council of Europe, he spoke not only of Serbia’s future but of the future of the entire western Balkans in the EU and explained that it can be realised through patient work, respect of democracy and principles of international law.
Bildt stressed on the occasion that Sweden fully supports resumption of negotiations between Serbia and the EU and will make all efforts to help Serbia acquire candidate status as soon as possible.
