Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Popovic and Director of the Department for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs Jorg Reding put into operation today the modernised national dispatching centre of the Elektromreza Srbije (EMS) public company for electricity transmission.
Popovic said at a press conference that the value of the dispatching centre is €10 million and that those funds were provided through a donation of the Swiss government. He explained that modernisation of the dispatching centre will enable control over the entire electricity system and electricity distribution in Serbia and outside its borders.
He said that Serbia shares borders with eight countries and thus has a lot of trans-border traffic. This system will be very useful during winter months when a crisis in supply occurs.
Reding said that the total assistance from Switzerland is the last 15 months has totalled €110 million and that modernisation of the dispatching centre is the largest single donation in that period.
He said that Serbian companies had a significant share in the realisation of the last project in which deals worth 15% of the total value of the donation have been struck with the Institute Mihajlo Pupin and the company "Minel - Energetska Elektronika."
Reding said that the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) and EMS have excellent cooperation with Swiss firms and consultancy companies and added that the Swiss government is examining the possibility of financing a new project with EPS, which is modernisation of the control system of thermo electrical power plant "Nikola Tesla B" in Obrenovac.
