Lavrov said that now is the right time for a meeting, since soon there will be a meeting between Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg on June 9.
The Russian Foreign Minister said that today the intensive dialogue began when he was
in Belgrade in April will be continued, and he congratulated Jeremic on his appointment as foreign minister.
Jeremic conveyed to Lavrov greetings from Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Serbian President Boris Tadic, saying that Kostunica is looking forward to the meeting with the Russian President in St Petersburg.
Jeremic stressed that he is very pleased to be in Moscow at the very beginning of his term as this is his first visit outside the Balkans.
That reflects the level of bilateral relations which are excellent at the moment, said Jeremic, adding that one of the priorities during his term as minister will be to further improve these relations.
Jeremic also met today the Envoy of the Russian President to the Central Federal District Georgy Sergeyevich Poltavchenko and Russian Minister of Emergencies Sergei Shoigu, who reiterated that the Russian position concerning Kosovo-Metohija remains unchanged.
During the talks with Poltavchenko and Shoigu, the officials focused mainly on economic topics, Jeremic said and announced a session of intergovernmental committee for cooperation in late June in Belgrade. According to Jeremic, Shoigu will attend this session which will focus on projects of common interest for Russia and Serbia.
