The European Commission (EC) stated today that negotiations with Serbia on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) may be resumed and that Serbia has shown a clear commitment to full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said today in Brussels that negotiations between the European Union with Serbia on SAA will be resumed.
After a thorough and careful evaluation, I can confirm that the European Commission can resume negotiations with Serbia, Rehn said after the talks between Serbian President Boris Tadic and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which he attended.
The European Commissioner added that he cannot specify when the negotiations will be resumed. The date will be determined after the visit of Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte to Belgrade and her report.
He said that the pace of the negotiations will depend on Serbia's continuous and effective cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
