According to a statement by the press service of the Serbian President, at a reception hosted by the Serbian President for the Prime Minister and new members of the government, Tadic and Kostunica reiterated that it is extremely important that the Serbian government’s programme is based on five basic principles.
These principles are safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, conclusion of cooperation with the Hague tribunal, creating better living conditions, continuation of European integration and the fight against organised crime and corruption.
The President and the Prime Minister said that resuming negotiations on the Stabiliastion and Association Agreement with the EU is one of the most important tasks of the new government, so that Serbia could get the official status of candidate country for EU membership by the end of 2008, reads the statement.
