Industrial production in January-May grew 7.5 percent compared with the same period of 2003, the statement said.
The processing industry jumped 13 percent against the 2003 monthly average. The production and distribution of electricity, gas and water slumped 21.9 percent, while ore and stone extraction dropped 8.1 percent.
The production of capital goods jumped 58.4 percent against the average monthly production in 2003, while the production of intermediary goods, not including energy, climbed 19 percent. A total of 14 sectors, accounting for 67 percent of overall industrial output, reported a rise in May, while 15 sectors, which make up 33 percent of the country’s industrial production, saw a drop.
According to the statement, industrial production growth was largely fuelled by an increase in the production of special-purpose machines, rolled steel products, multi-layer wood panels, pharmaceuticals and medical chemicals, construction materials, oil and rubber products, drinks, paper products and the extraction of non-ferrous metals.
Total industrial output in May, including SME production figures, increased by 4.5 percent against the 2003 monthly average, while the processing industry went up by 11.2 percent.
