The assistance will be used under a programme for the promotion of trade in Serbia-Montenegro between 2004 and 2007, which aims to help the country to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and encourage export-based economic development, reads a statement from the Serbia-Montenegrin Council of Ministers.
The programme will deal with trade policies and strategies for Serbia-Montenegro’s accession to the WTO as well as with an improved functioning of the customs services and modernisation of the country’s railway transport.
The memorandum envisages projects to ensure better export opportunities for Serbia-Montenegrin small and medium sized businesses as well as to encourage Serbia-Montenegrin exporters of farm products to adopt the EUREGAP standards.
The memorandum was signed by Serbia-Montenegrin Minister of International Economic Relations Predrag Ivanovic, Serbian Deputy Minister of Capital Investment Miodrag Jocic, acting Charge d'Affairs at the Swiss Embassy to Belgrade Raffael Vanovier, and Head of Swiss Cooperation Office Carin Isabelle Salerno.
