Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Slobodan Lalovic visited today the Children’s Village in Sremska Kamenica on the occasion of Christmas, and presented gifts to children living in the village.
Lalovic told a press conference that more than €120 million will be invested in reform of social welfare in Serbia during the next two years.
He recalled that a strategic plan for the development of social welfare was adopted at the end of 2005, and stressed that the essence of the plan is to transfer children and young persons from social establishments to foster homes as soon as possible, and to provide them with education which will enable them to look after themselves, and they will be given preference as job candidates.
Director of the Children’s Village Branislava Balaban said that currently there are 13 houses in the village, which are home to children and young adults from ages 3 to 26, and they are looked after by 58 employees.
