UNCTAD is a forum where economic development of developing countries and countries in transition is discussed on a high inter-governmental level.
Serbia-Montenegro is currently on the list A, which includes the least developed countries, developing countries and China. Taking into account reform process in Serbia-Montenegro and its middle-term goals, such as the accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the European Union, an initiative was launched to include Serbia-Montenegro in the list D, which includes countries in transition and EU candidates.
The conference will consider the possibility of launching a new round of negotiations on the Global System of Trade Preferences Among Developing Countries (GSTP). Serbia-Montenegro will have an opportunity to join the initiative for redefining the GSTP.
Being a UNCTAD member, Serbia-Montenegro has largely used analytical and advisory assistance of UNCTAD's experts. This assistance has proved to be very useful and indispensable, especially since Serbia-Montenegro intensified process of accession to the WTO.
By participating in the eleventh UNCTAD conference, Serbia-Montenegro will have an opportunity to express its positions concerning key problems in the field of international trade system and multilateral and bilateral negotiations.
The conference will be attended by Serbia-Montenegrin Minister of International Economic Relations Predrag Ivanovic, Ministry representative Aleksandra Rakovic, head of the Serbia-Montenegrin Mission to the United Nations in Geneva Biljana Todorovic and Serbia-Montenegrin Ambassador to Brazil Radivoje Lazarevic.
