Speaking at a session of the board of the Serbian independent commerce trade union, Dimitrijevic said that in 2006 the share of trade in GDP has increased, specifying that it accounts for 25.5% of net gains, while the retail trade growth in real terms is 8%.
He said that according to data from the Serbian central bank, the trade sector employs 203,287 workers, which makes up for 18.3% of all workers in the Serbian economy, the Minister said and explained that in the upcoming period, it will be necessary to step up the fight for protection of competition and consumers.
That can be achieved with the arrival of new trade chains, in which process small trade chains must be protected as well.
Dimitrijevic said that parliament passed laws on consumer protection, competition protection, and the law on public advertising, and voiced hope that the bill on trade, adopted by the government, will enter parliament's agenda by middle of 2007.
He voiced hope that the GDP rise in 2006 will be 7%, that inflation will be below 7%, and the inflow of foreign direct investment approximately $4 billion.
