Stojkovic stressed that mediation is one of the steps in the reform of the judiciary which helps resolve disputes more easily as parties do not feel that they either won or lost.
He added that the centre will provide new, efficient and cheaper ways to solve disputes, which will upgrade efficiency of the local judiciary.
He said that the Ministry of Justice pledges for decentralisation of judiciary and expressed hope that Nis also gets a council for organised crime.
The founders of the Centre are the Serbian Ministry of Justice and International Financial Corporation, a member of the World Bank, that provides technical assistance for the Centre's work.
The opening of the centre was also attended by Bulgarian Minister of Justice Georgi Petkanov.
Apart from the introduction of mediation, the Centre will be in charge of mediator training, licence issuing, organising seminars, expert meetings and similar.
There are 15 judges and five lawyers who finished training for mediation in Nis.
