Stojkovic said that thus conditions for the implementation of the Law on criminal procedure will finally be fulfilled.
He also said that apart from district and municipal courts, the new building will host the Court of Appeal which is to begin work on January 1, 2007.
The Minister said that €30 million will be set aside from the National Investment Plan for the purpose of equipping courts in Serbia. He also recalled that the building for the Court of Appeal in Belgrade is under construction and that tenders for the renovation of buildings in Kragujevac and Nis, where the courts of appeal will be seated, are also underway.
According to Stojkovic, the Novi Sad Court of Appeal will also host the council of the special department for fighting organised crime which will help cases to be held on time.
The new building spans 2,700 square metres of usable space and used to belong to Privredna Banka which is now in restructuring. It was bought for around €3 million and the tender for its renovation will soon be called.
Novi Sad District Prosecutor Zoran Pavlovic said that once the prosecution moves to its new premises it will be situated quite near the Novi Sad police station.
He recalled that once the new law is put into force, the prosecution will be heading investigation thus enabling citizens to receive legal protection in the shortest period possible.
