Construction of largest ship in Serbia kicks off

Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic said today that the Belgrade shipyard is currently constructing the biggest ship in Serbia and added that its construction will improve the country’s trade balance.

Parivodic said that Vahali Service & Marine from the Netherlands will invest in the construction of the ship that will be 132.2 metres long, 15.87 metres wide and worth €25 million.
He explained that a new patent will be used on the ship and that the 10,000 ton ship will be able to transport 700 containers.
The ship was ordered by German company Beluga Shipping, the Minister said and added that the ship is to be finished in 2007.
The construction of six such ships per annum would result in €250 million in exports, he added.
