Ilic said that the reconstruction of the bridge which was damaged in the 1999 NATO bombing amounted to €709,000, of which €200,000 was provided by the governments of Norway and Belgium, whereas the Serbian government set aside €309,000.
He stressed that the reconstructed bridge connecting Serbia and Croatia is an example of how a complex job can be finished with joint forces.
The Minister recalled that the reconstruction of the 620 metre rail bridge lasted from June to December 8 this year, when the bridge got the licence for use.
Ilic stated that in cooperation with the Croatian government the border crossing Batrovci was completed, adding that the two states will jointly invest in the construction of a border crossing near Sid, as well as on the Danube near Apatin.
Livakovic said that the opening of the bridge is consequential for cross-border cooperation of Serbia and Croatia and the linking of the two peoples. He added that Croatia is paying a great deal of attention to regional and cross-border cooperation.
Director of the Serbian public railway company Zeleznice Srbije Milanko Sarancic stated that the bridge is completely prepared for freight traffic to start taking place from Subotica via Bogojevo to Vinkovci, whereas passenger and railway traffic will be set up through the 2007/2008 traffic schedule.
