Miscevic said on the occasion that journalism is a profession which is very important in the process of EU integration, not just because of reporting on the process and necessary internal reforms, but also to answer all the questions raised by the process.
She explained that due to that the EU Integration Office prepared a strategy for communication in 2003 which was realised in 2005 with the help of the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR), and the support of consulting agencies “Mostra” from Brussels and “Kreativa” from Belgrade.
According to Miscevic, the strategy includes a number of activities in the sphere of media, such as seminars for journalists in Belgrade and abroad, campaigns through advertisements in leading dailies, printing of newsletters in cooperation with the civil sector, and support for programmes on European integration broadcast by the production house “Mreza” and the quiz on Radio B92.
Miscevic pointed to the fact that the aim of the strategy is providing information and breaking the barrier of prejudices against European integration.
Journalist Ana Veljkovic from Radio Television B92 was presented the award for longer television show titled “Secret Schengen Channels”, while Vladeta Dunda from RTV Krusevac received the award for best TV show or report in local media.
Journalist Dragan Stanojevic from RTS information programme received the award for short TV report and Zvonko Ninkov from Production group “Mreza”, was given the award for TV report on European integrations.
Aleksandra Mijalkovic, editor of the “Evropski Forum” monthly, was the recipient of the award for best analytical text in weekly or monthly magazines.
The awarded journalists will go on a study trip to Brussels from 16 to 20 December 2006, and they will have the opportunity to meet the European Commission representatives in charge of enlargement and information, as well as their Belgian colleagues and international correspondents in Brussels, in order to establish and improve mutual professional cooperation.
The awards ceremony was attended by Finnish Ambassador Anna-Maija Korpi, President of the European Movement in Serbia Zivorad Kovacevic, head of the European Commission Delegation to Serbia Josep Lloveras, president of the municipality of New Belgrade Zeljko Ozegovic and State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of International Economic Relations Dusko Lopandic.
The jury members were representative of the EAR Srdjan Staletovic, representative of the EU Integration Office Ivana Djuric and Natasa Savic, as well as journalist Dusan Gajic.
Non-voting members of the jury were representative of “Mostra” Xavier Marchelidon and representative of “Kreativa” Jasmin Kovacevic.
The competition was financially supported by the European Agency for Reconstruction.
