Lalovic said that laying the corner stone will mark the official beginning of construction of 15 flats, covering a total area of 507.18 square metres, which are intended for war invalids and families of those who fell in battle.
He specified that the Japanese government will invest €300,000, while the municipality of Pancevo has provided the building land and infrastructure.
According to Lalovic, the construction in Pancevo is beginning owing to a Japanese donation given for building 206 flats in 11 cities of Serbia for war invalids and children of those killed in the wars during the 90s.
The Minister pointed to the fact that the Japanese donation gave an incentive to the Serbian government to allocate €4.2 million from the National Investment Plan to further build housing facilities throughout Serbia for war invalids and children of those killed.
Japanese Ambassador Nagai explained that Japanese help to Serbia is not ending with this donation because it is planned that aid will be provided to hospitals and for medical equipment, and to schools for establishing a modern curriculum.
The signing of verbal notes between the Ministry of International Economic Relations and the Japanese Embassy to Belgrade on July 7, 2005 marked the beginning of realisation of the project "Social housing for war invalids" in eleven municipalities and cities of Serbia (Kikinda, Novi Sad, Indjija, Pancevo, Belgrade, Smederevo, Loznica, Kragujevac, Krusevac, Nis and Leskovac).
In ten out of eleven municipalities the facilities will have been built, technically equipped and ready for distribution by the end of 2006, while the project will be realised in full in the first months of 2007.
