At the end of the first day of the first round of technical negotiations on visa relaxations, Miscevic said she hopes that at the next round, scheduled for January 15 in Belgrade, the categories of citizens and documents necessary for gaining Schengen visas will be specified.
According to Miscevic, Belgrade would like the agreement to be initialled by early March 2007 so that the EU could ratify it by end-2007, having in mind that after initialisation the agreement has to be approved by the EU Council of Ministers and the European parliament before it is enforced.
Miscevic recalled that the first effect of visa relaxations will be felt when after January 1, 2007, Schengen visas do not go up to €65, but remain at €35 for Serbian citizens, whereas the second will be felt when the number of documents that have to be submitted when applying for a visa is also reduced.
This round will be resumed on December 4 and will concern the readmission agreement which will create conditions so that Serbian citizens living illegally in the EU can be deported to Serbia.
Miscevic explained that the readmission agreement is very important both for Serbia and the EU since there will be no visa regime without it. The day the visa relaxations are enforced, the readmission agreement will also be put into force because one conditions the other, explained Miscevic.
