Negotiations on visa relaxations, readmission agreement with the EU start

A first round of negotiations on visa relaxations and the agreement on readmission with the EU will take place today in Brussels.
The Serbian government’s negotiating team will be led by Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic at the ministerial conference organised by European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini.
The ministerial conference, which will mark the beginning of negotiations, will be attended by competent ministers from the countries of the Western Balkans, and it is expected that negotiations will be concluded within a few months, during the first half of 2007.
Directly after the ministerial conference is concluded, on Friday, December 1, the Serbian negotiating team will hold talks with representatives of the European Commission on visa relaxations which should facilitate travel for Serbian citizens to EU member countries.
Negotiations on concluding the single agreement on readmission with the EU will continue on December 4, reads the statement.
