Opening the fifth international trade fair of entrepreneurship “Business Base 2006” at the Belgrade fairgrounds, Simovic said that 10,000 new SMEs were opened last year whereas the number is expected to be even larger this year.
She noted that the SME sector already contributes to more than 50% of GDP growth and added that the National Investment Plan will support the opening of business incubators, which should contribute to the development of entrepreneurship.
Simovic noted that this fair is supported from the Serbian state budget and added that the fair next year will be of even better quality.
Director of the Serbian Agency for the Development of SMEs and Entrepreneurship Mirjana Jovanovic announced that the fair will feature 250 exhibitors from Serbia, Republika Srpska and Montenegro from November 29 to December 2.
Jovanovic announced exhibitions of enterprises for food, textile, metal, wood processing, craft and organic production.
According to Jovanovic, the aim of the follow-up programmes is to support those who want to run their own small business.
State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Danilo Golubovic opened the specialised food and drink fair “Ethno Food 2006” which will feature nearly 100 food and drink producers.
He noted that Serbia has a lot to offer in terms of ethno-products, but added that a legal framework, production standards and marketing need to be improved.
He recalled that the Law on Organic Production, which was adopted in July this year, will allow only organic food to be sold under that sign.
