This is the first time Serbia has chaired an international organisation as an independent state.
Apart from Serbia, BSEC members are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey and the Ukraine.
During its chairmanship, Serbia’s priorities will be strengthening ties with the EU, fighting organised crime and terrorism, environmental protection, education, tourism, business cooperation, culture and protection of cultural legacy.
Before the ministerial meeting, Draskovic met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who confirmed Russia’s full support to Serbia in its territorial integrity claims.
The key is to find a variant that satisfies both parties, Lavrov said speaking on the Kosovo-Metohija issue. He noted that one of the main principles of the Contact Group is to reach a compromise with no imposed deadlines or tasks given in advance.
