Commitment to ensuring supply of oil derivatives to domestic market

Belgrade/Saint Petersburg, 3 June 2026

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović spoke today in Saint Petersburg with Chairman of the Management Board of Gazprom Neft Alexander Dyukov about cooperation between Serbia and Russia in resolving the issue of oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS).

Đedović Handanović recalled that Serbia has been struggling with the crisis in the oil sector for a year and a half due to sanctions on NIS, while negotiations on the sale and purchase between the owner Gazprom Neft and Hungary’s MOL as the buyer are ongoing.

The Minister pointed out that both the Russian and Hungarian sides are committed to harmonising all remaining issues.

Đedović Handanović and Dyukov also discussed the operation of the refinery in Pančevo in challenging conditions, emphasising that both sides are taking all necessary measures to ensure the reliability of supply to the domestic market.

According to her, we have been working together to find a solution with NIS and will continue to work to ensure stable supply.

The parties confirmed their intention to find a solution to the situation regarding the sanctions imposed on NIS, emphasising that they are getting closer to reaching an agreement with MOL.

NIS will submit another request to OFAC for the extension of its operating license, which expires on 16 June.
