Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić began his visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan with a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of that country Bakhtiyor Saidov, in Tashkent.
The two ministers exchanged views on numerous topics of common interest, bearing in mind that the potential of relations between the two countries has not been fully utilised.
It was noted that Uzbekistan is an important partner for Serbia in Central Asia, with which we want to further develop economic cooperation, and this area was among the topics that marked today’s meeting.
Cooperation in the fields of agriculture, innovation, advanced technologies and various areas of industry was also discussed.
The importance of establishing an Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation to attract business entities to both countries was also highlighted.
The interlocutors welcomed the initiative to open a Serbian embassy in Tashkent, in the context of strengthening ties and establishing stronger foundations for the future of our relations.
Đurić also conveyed to his Uzbek counterpart that we are ready to host students from that country at our higher education institutions within the framework of the “World in Serbia” programme, in order to build bridges between our two friendly countries in the field of educational cooperation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
