In a meeting with the delegation led by EBRD Managing Director of the Sustainable Infrastructure Group Harry Boyd-Carpenter, Đedović Handanović stated that Serbia is in a major investment cycle in the energy sector, within which investments of €14.4 billion is planned by 2035.
According to her, Serbia’s most important task in the coming period is to ensure sufficient electricity, with the sustainable integration of new capacities from renewable energy sources.
She emphasised that significant investments are planned in the development and modernisation of gas infrastructure in Serbia, totalling €1.6 billion, noting that gas power plants are necessary to ensure stable electricity production, which is why the integration of 1,000 megawatts of new production capacity is planned in the investment cycle.
The Minister stressed that Serbia is committed to achieving the goal of providing 45% of electricity from renewable energy sources by the end of the decade, recalling that, with the technical support of the EBRD, two rounds of auctions for the allocation of market premiums to private investors were successfully conducted.
Based on them, we received ten new power plants with a total capacity of more than 1,200 megawatts, while electricity will go to Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) at prices lower than market rates, the Minister explained.
According to her, EPS, with the financial support of the EBRD, has begun a project to revitalise the Vlasina Hydropower Plants, which will enable a more stable operation of this system in the long term, while increasing installed capacity.
